U.S. Protesting Against Coronavirus Lockdown Measures

Public demonstrations against the continued lockdown are alarming the authorities of Washington State. Thousands of people without masks gathered on the streets, refusing the governor’s orders to stay at home and keep businesses shut down.

The organizer of the protests, Tyler Miller, pointed out that the governor has gone beyond his constitutional authority, and that closing restaurants and bars is unconstitutional.

So, they are not against the preventive measures of the health experts, and even Miller himself self-quarantined for 14 days at the beginning of the pandemic because he showed coronavirus symptoms, but they don’t think the government has the right to ban social gatherings.

The people in the manifestations are not the only dissatisfied by the continued lockdown measures. Some politicians share their opinion as well, including Rick Becker of North Dakota who said: “There was an overreaction by state governments with regard to mandatory shutdowns, shelter in place, and so forth.”

In South Dakota, where the state representative Bob Glanzer died from COVID-19, the governor has set clear guidelines for the population on how to behave during the outbreak, but in reality, left the local communities to make their own decisions.
